Three Things I Consistently Hear About FSW Retreats

After hosting 33 retreats since 2017, most of them since 2021, I’ve noticed a pattern, that certain things come up again and again in conversation.

Not in formal feedback or surveys, but in the real moments: during a walk after practice, over dinner, in the airport on the way home, or in the messages I receive weeks later.

People often share the same reflections about what made the retreat experience feel different to them. And over time, three themes have consistently come to the surface.

These are the things that shape the experience of a Free Spirited Wanderer retreat, and they’re often the reason people return for their 2nd, 5th, or even 10th retreat with us.

THE COMMUNITY:

The first thing people talk about is the community.

It’s real.

People connect quickly, and it's not surface level. Conversations move beyond small talk into honesty, depth, laughter, and meaningful sharing. There’s space for people to show up exactly as they are.

No pressure. No judgment. Just genuine connection.

By the middle of the week, something shifts.

The friendships that started to form begin to feel even more easy and natural—like you’ve known each other far longer than a few days.

And the beautiful part is that these connections often continue long after the retreat ends. People stay in touch, travel together on future FSW retreats, and support one another through life’s different seasons.

That sense of belonging is something many people didn’t even realize they were craving until they experienced it.

THE YOGA:

The second thing I hear about often is the yoga itself.

People notice that the practice I offer feels different.

There’s a strong emphasis on breath, structure, and intention. The sequences have purpose. The postures build on one another. The practice asks you to stay present and engaged rather than simply moving through shapes.

Participants often leave feeling calmer, stronger, more steady, not just physically but mentally.

There’s a confidence that comes from staying with the work, from showing up for yourself day after day, and from experiencing what your body and mind are capable of on a daily basis when you commit to the practice.

The practice I offer carries far beyond the mat and moves home with them as a sense of love and support as they transition back into their daily rhythm.

THE WORKSHOPS:

And finally, the workshops.

No matter where we are in the world, the retreat always goes beyond the physical practice.

This is where we bring the wisdom of yoga off the mat and into real life.

The conversations are honest and practical. We explore themes around mindset, daily practices, self-awareness, and the ways we move through the world.

Participants also receive a workbook designed to guide reflection and integration throughout the retreat. It gives structure to the experience so it’s not just something you feel in the moment—it becomes something you can continue working with when you return home.

The intention is always the same:

You don’t just leave with memories.

You leave with clarity, tools, and direction.

Hosting these retreats is something I never take for granted.

It’s an honor to guide these spaces, to witness what unfolds when people step away from their normal routines and give themselves the time and space to practice, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most.

Watching people arrive one way and leave more grounded, more confident, and more themselves is something I will never get tired of witnessing.

And if reading this lights something up inside of you, even just a small spark of curiosity, I invite you to explore our upcoming retreats.

You’re welcome to come solo, with a friend, or with a family member.
